Caps for Cure Fundraiser

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and that means it's time for our Caps for a Cure fundraiser!

Caps for CURE is a school-wide event benefiting CURE Childhood Cancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through targeted research while supporting patients and their families.

Our Caps for CURE fundraiser will be the week of September 21st through the 25th.  All WCA students may pay $5 for the week and wear a hat each day.  Wearing a cap not your thing?  Then please consider making a donation.  All donations of any size are appreciated whether you choose to wear a cap or not.

So grab your favorite cap to crown your head and raise money for this important cause!

Meet the New Baseball Coach

We are excited to announce the hiring of Kevin Renz as the new head baseball coach for WCA.  Coach Renz started his baseball career in Texas, and after playing at Sam Houston State, he was drafted by the Chicago White Sox.  Coach Renz was also a member of the 1984 Olympic Baseball team. He has been in coaching at various schools in the Gwinnett area for the past 30 years as well as operating Renz Baseball Academy.

All interested baseball parents and players are welcome to come meet Coach Renz at 7:00 pm on Thursday September the 10th in the WCA gym.

Traffic Circle Reminders

The WCA traffic circle is a very busy place during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.  It's important that we all follow WCA guidelines to ensure the safety of our students and parents.  Please remember the following:

  • Always drive slowly through the traffic circle.
  • Drivers should not have phones in their hands.
  • Pull all the way around the circle as needed.
  • At no time should parents exit their vehicles.
  • Students should exit the car from the right side of the car.

Thank you for your help to ensure the traffic circle is a safe place for all students and parents!

WCA Spirit Wear Online - Last Call for Now!

Tomorrow (Thursday the 10th) at midnight is the deadline for ordering unique WCA spirit wear from our online store for this ordering cycle.  Follow this link - WCA Spirit Store - to see what's available and find unique items and hard-to-find sizes that are different from what we stock in our school store.

Please know that all sales are final on decorated/personalized items

Parents Prayer Starting This Week

All WCA Parents are invited to join in a time of prayer on Thursday mornings, right before the school day begins.  The first meeting will be tomorrow morning, Thursday, September 10th, in the tech lab from 7:25 until 7:50 am.

This is a great opportunity for us to come together to pray for our families, school, and country. If you can only come one time - that's great!  Every other week - perfect!  Once a month - yes!  Everyone is welcome.  Please join us!

Incidental Billing on FACTS

Sports fees, lunch bunch/after school fees and activity fees are just a few of the things that fall into the category of FACTS incidental billing.  In an effort to reduce the number of emails hitting your inbox, we will typically bill FACTS accounts for incidental expenses on or around the 15th of every month.  For monthly charges such as lunch bunch and after school, the bill you receive on the 15th will be for the previous month’s charges.

Once these charges are on your FACTS account, the way they are paid is dependent upon how your account is set up.  If your incidental bills are paid automatically, then your email communication from FACTS will indicate what day those will draft.  If you are not set up for automatic payments, you will need to log into your FACTS account (accessible through ParentsWeb) and make the payment by the due date.

If you have questions about incidental billing, please contact Tami Butts, tbutts@wcalions.org or 706-769-9372, ext 115.

Fall Sports Pictures

Fall Sports Picture day will be on Monday, September 21st.  Pictures will be taken after school and communication about which uniform to wear will come from coaches.  Order forms may be picked up in the school office.  If you have any questions, please contact Tollie Ediger, tediger@wcalions.org.

AP Test in May

Any student needing to take an AP test in May who is not taking a Westminster or GAVS AP course needs to see Mrs. Cole before September 15th.

PROBE College Fair - Virtual for Fall 2020

One hundred and sixty-three colleges from across the country will participate in this fall's virtual Probe college tour. The tour will be held entirely online during two mini-fairs during the evenings of October 5-7, and November 2 and November 4-5.

For interested students, there is a sign up web page at gaprobe.org/students.  Please register through this link if you are a high school student looking towards college and think you'd like to participate.  By signing up, you will be emailed directly when the tour registration goes live and to provide updates on participating colleges.

Panels and presentations will be available through Zoom Webinars and pre-registration for each session is required.  There is no charge for students or parents to participate.  Parents may sign up for registration announcements and information updates at gaprobe.org/parents.
