"Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!" Psalm 95:1

At the heart of our music program is worship. Our desire at Westminster is to cultivate a space where our students can praise the Lord through song, instruments, and performances, while utilizing and developing their unique God-given gifts and abilities. There are many opportunities for students to get involved in “making a joyful noise” to the Lord throughout the Lower School and Upper School grades.

Our Lower School students participate in music class each week, where they practice and prepare for special performances throughout the year. These performances include each grade leading the music for special chapels, the Christmas Program, and our Spring Musical. Our Spring Musical is a wonderful opportunity each year for our 3rd-5th grade students to participate in a larger theatrical production, and the 5th grade also has the opportunity to audition for the main cast.

Middle School Music

Middle school students in 6th grade take music class each week and focus on singing to prepare for the Christmas Program in the fall semester. They also learn to play the ukulele and by the spring semester will be able to play and sing comfortably. During music class, they are also given an introduction to auditioning for the Spring Musical, which is open to 5th-8th grade students.

Students in 7th grade take one semester of music class, during which they learn an introduction to the guitar. In the fall semester, students will also be a part of the Westminster Christmas Program and spend time learning and preparing choral Christmas music.

Upper School Chorus

Upper School Chorus is an opportunity for 7th-12th grade students to participate in a mixed choir. They perform at Grandparents Day in September, the Christmas Program, and a spring Easter chapel.

High School Chapel Band

Chapel Band is an opportunity for high school students who have a heart for leading worship. These students lead their peers in worship at both Lower School and Upper School chapels with a mixture of contemporary worship songs and beloved hymns. Tryouts are held at the beginning of each school year.

Literary

Literary is an academic and fine arts competition that allows students to showcase their talents within these areas. There are several music categories, including girls solo, boys solo, girls trio, boys quartet, and piano solo.
