Westminster Christian Academy to add football, golf and join GIAA. Westminster Christian Academy announced today the addition of varsity and middle school football starting with the 2022-2023 school year. The Lions will field 8-man tackle football teams and play a region schedule starting next fall. The school is actively engaged in the process of selecting a coach to lead this new program.
Golf will also be added to the spring sports offerings at Westminster and will bring the total number of sports offered at the school to 10.
“These are exciting times on our campus as we provide more opportunities for our student-athletes to be mentored by coaches committed to the mission of Westminster Christian Academy” said Head of School, Jared Clark. “We view all of our co-curricular programs as an integral part of fulfilling our mission of glorifying God and equipping students for God’s unique purpose for their lives,” said Clark.
Additionally, Westminster Christian Academy will be moving to the newly formed Georgia Independent Athletic Association (formerly GISA) for all varsity sports where it will compete in the AA classification. The Lions will compete in Region 2 of the GIAA. Westminster currently competes in the Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools. “At one time WCA was a member of the GISA so we look forward to reconnecting with former rivals and establishing new ones through the GIAA,” said Director of Athletics, Dr. Steve Crouse.
