Lower School

The lower school, grades pre-kindergarten through fifth, provides a nurturing, Christ-centered environment that promotes a love for learning. Westminster is committed to educating the heart and mind of each child through engaging in meaningful classroom activities. Students are encouraged to develop a personal relationship with Christ as each subject is taught through the lens of a biblical worldview.

Westminster bases its classroom structure and teaching methods on the Classical Education model. This model is taught through the process of the Trivium – three distinct phases of learning. The Grammar Phase begins in the elementary grades where students build a strong foundation by learning the rules and facts of each subject. The classical approach seeks to capitalize on the natural progression of development in children. Lower school students memorize facts through songs, chants and jingles which allow them to absorb knowledge they will later sort out in the logic and rhetoric stages.
