Art Through the Years
Using a study of art history for foundation, students create artwork using a variety of mediums, allowing for development of their own creative viewpoint. They are able to explore God's amazing gift of creativity, as unique people made in the image of their Creator.
Our littlest learners engage in art class, using creativity and expression to grow and develop, and enjoy and worship God. During the elementary years, the main focus is on developing basic design skills and experience using a wide variety of art materials. Children practice many different art-making techniques including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and 3-D design. Projects in grades 3-5 focus on an introduction to art history, highlighting famous artists and major art movements. In all grades, students explore God’s amazing gift of creativity as unique people made in the image of their Creator.
Our Upper School Visual Arts Program continues to build on foundational art skills learned in the elementary years. It is at this point in time that our students can continue to grow and develop in their artistic abilities, while expressing creativity.
Middle School Art
The visual arts course for middle school is based on the study of art history. Students explore a period of art and then reference it while creating their own projects using a variety of mediums.
High School Art
In high school, students work to hone their skills and application of the elements of art and principles of design. Art projects are taught by discipline, beginning with drawing and progressing through to painting, printmaking, and sculpture over the year.
Advanced Placement Art
AP Art is offered to students who have a natural propensity toward art and want to apply themselves to develop their creative viewpoint. Students work to create fifteen pieces of art focused on a chosen theme over the course of the year and submit it to the AP board for scoring.
