Class of 2025 Honors

Westminster is pleased to present our Class of 2025 Valedictorian, Lilly Atkinson. Lilly is the daughter of Dr. Brian and Stephanie Atkinson of Athens. She began attending Westminster in Kindergarten and has been very involved in campus activities throughout the years. Lilly has participated in the National Honor Society, Tennis Team, Lions Lead, Math Bowl, Quiz Bowl, Chorus, Spanish club, Spanish Honor Society and served as a small group leader. After graduation, Lilly plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall, majoring in Mathematics Education. Congratulations to Lilly and her family on this outstanding achievement!

Westminster is pleased to honor our Class of 2025 Salutatorian, Ansley Hovater. Ansley is the daughter of Russel and Sarah Hovater of Colbert. She came to Westminster as a 9th grader and has been involved in sports and academic activities during her high school years. Ansley is a soccer player, was a member of the Cross Country team, participated in Mock Trial, Literary, Quiz Bowl, One Act and is a member of the National Honor Society. In the fall, Ansley will be attending the University of Georgia pursuing a degree in Biochemistry and Russian. Congratulations to Ansley and her family on this well deserved recognition!

High School Musical Jr. Auditions are THIS WEEKEND!

It's time to begin preparations for the One Act competition! Auditions will be held on May 2 & 3 and are open to rising 8-12 grades. Come be a part of our first One Act musical ever! This show requires a wide variety of students, specifically basketball players, cheerleaders, theatre kids, and students who enjoy academics. No previous experience necessary! Just come join the fun!

Teacher Appreciation Week is next week and the parents' association board is actively working on preparations to make this week special. AP Exams

For students taking Advanced Placement courses, the AP exams will be administered beginning May 5th and going through the 16th. Please look for an email from Kelly Cole with specific testing information.

We will be celebrating our lower school moms on Thursday, May 8th, with our Muffins with Moms event. Join your child in their classroom from 7:35 until 8:05 am for this special time of fellowship, coffee and treats designed to honor you! Upper School Academic Awards

On Wednesday, May 14th, the faculty will recognize the academic achievements of the middle and high school students for the 2024-2025 school year. Please note this is different from the honor roll recognition. Students with the highest average for the school year in an academic subject will receive the Founders Award. Students demonstrating exceptional diligence, aptitude, or improvement in a particular subject area will receive a Faculty Award.
The Middle School Academic Awards Presentation will start at 8:00 a.m., and the High School Academic Awards Presentation will follow at 9:30 a.m. in the gym. Parents are invited to attend. Please check this link for a list of the Academic Award Recipients.

All rising 9th-12th grade boys, summer basketball sessions will take place Monday-Friday during the month of June. Additionally, summer league games will be played during the month of June.
All rising 6th-8th grade girls will have the opportunity to attend summer fundamental training and team building exercises on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (4:30-5:30 pm) each week between June 2nd-19th. Additionally, Coach Norris will be hosting a team camp June 25th-27th.
All rising 7th-12th grade girls, summer basketball practices will take place every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings June 2nd - 26th from 6:00pm-7:30pm.

Spring is here, so it's a perfect time to enjoy the outdoors and get ready for WCA's annual Field Day! This day of fun and friendly competition will be held on Friday, April 25th, beginning at 8 am.
Early Dismissal: Field Day is an early dismissal day for all students.
Lower School - Dismissed at 12 pm
Upper School - Dismissed at 12:30 pm

High School Spring Formal 2025

All 9th-12th grade students are invited to the Spring Formal Dance “Roll Out the Red!”, which will take place this weekend at the Veranda on Broad - April 26th, from 7:00 - 10:00 PM.
Tickets: The cost of a ticket is $36 and should be purchased in advance. Ticket sales can be purchased on GoFan here. Ticket sales will be available until April 23rd by midnight.
Guests: Students who wish to bring a guest from another school are asked to fill out a guest form with the potential guest’s information. You may access the form by following this link - or a copy may be picked up at Mrs. Laura Boswell’s desk. Please return completed forms to Mrs. Boswell’s desk by Wednesday, April 23rd by 3:00 PM.
Pictures: Many students like to arrive early to take pictures at the venue. The Veranda on Broad has a beautiful garden area on the premises to take pictures and is available to us starting at 5:30 PM. Mrs. Kaitie Bryant will be there to take photos that will commemorate the event and be available to all. Those who would like to take pictures are welcome to do so then. Parents who would like to be present for pictures are welcome to be there for pictures between 5:30-7:00 before the dance begins.
The Veranda on Broad: The Veranda is a new venue located at 830 West Broad Street, Athens, GA 30601. There is parking on-site for student drivers.

Region 4AA Championship - Tennis
Congratulations to the following athletes who competed in GIAA AA State Individual Tennis. earlier this week. Evy Cole & Lou Norris (doubles), Elec Hunt & Matthew Dipalma (doubles), and Nash Norris all advanced to the quarterfinals! Next up is GIAA AA State Team Tennis. Both the girls and boys are waiting for the final GIAA AA rankings to be released on Thursday afternoon to determine the plans for advancing to state.

Westminster Christian Academy is scheduled at 8:00am. Piedmont Orthopedic and Sports Medicine is located at 1305 Jennings Mill Rd, Building 300, Watkinsville, GA. When you arrive, follow for signs directing you to the school’s entry point. Athletes must have a complete health history with parent signature to receive a physical, or they will not receive care. No Exceptions.

Lower School ERB Testing

ERB standardized testing for our lower school students in grades 3rd through 5th is next week - April 21st - 24th. In preparation for these days, please see the information below.
Testing Schedule:
April 21-24 ~ 3rd through 5th grade students
Testing will be completed by 10:30 am each day and the rest of the day will be their normal class schedule.
In Preparation for Testing:
Make sure your student gets adequate sleep and arrives unhurried and on time each day.
Please plan for your students to be in attendance during testing times each day unless there is an emergency or illness.
Please arrive before 8:00 a.m. If you arrive after 8 am, please check in with Mrs. Boswell as usual and leave your child with her.

Creed Fitness is a full-body functional fitness gym with locations in Watkinsville and Athens. One of the founding principles of Creed is to provide a non-intimidating, encouraging environment for all ages and fitness levels with the focus on a holistic approach to fitness. Founder, Clint Watson, was born and raised in Athens and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science. Clint and his family - wife Leah, and children Salem (3rd grade) and Raema (1st grade) - are members of our Westminster community. Next week - April 7th - 11th - Westminster will be closed for Spring Break 2025. Whether you're staying at home or traveling abroad, we hope this is a wonderful time away from the school routine for you and your family. School will resume normal operations on Monday, April 14th.
Field Day 2025 ~ Volunteer Today!

Spring is here so it's a perfect time to enjoy the outdoors (the pollen should be gone by then) and get ready for WCA's annual Field Day! This day of fun and friendly competition will be held on Friday, April 25th, beginning at 8 am.
Volunteers: Many helping hands are needed to help this day run smoothly. If you would like to volunteer, please follow this link.
Early Dismissal: Field Day is an early dismissal day for all students.

Lost & Found

Before we take off for Spring Break, it's time to clean house and clean out the lost and found bins. Items are on display in the gym until after school on Friday. Please take a look and see if anything belongs to you. As always, any unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity.
One Act 2025/2026

High School Musical Jr. Auditions Sign-ups are now open!
It's time to begin preparations for next years One Act competition! Auditions will be held on May 2 & 3 and are open to rising 8-12 grades. Come be a part of our first One Act musical ever! This show requires a wide variety of students, specifically basketball players, cheerleaders, theatre kids, and students who enjoy academics. No previous experience necessary! Just come join the fun!
Please fill out the audition form via this link and select an audition time. More information about auditions will follow after the form is completed. If you are only interested in a backstage or tech position, you do not need to audition, but please fill out the audition form and select your areas of interest. Questions? High School Spring Formal 2025

All 9th-12th grade students are invited to the Spring Formal Dance “Roll Out the Red!”, which will take place at the Veranda on Broad on April 26th, from 7:00 - 10:00 PM.
Tickets: The cost of a ticket is $36 and should be purchased in advance. Ticket sales can be purchased on GoFan here. Ticket sales will be available until April 23rd by midnight.
Guests: Students who wish to bring a guest from another school are asked to fill out a guest form with the potential guest’s information. You may access the form by following this link - Guest Form - or a copy may be picked up at Mrs. Laura Boswell’s desk. Please return completed forms to Mrs. Boswell’s desk by Wednesday, April 23rd by 3:00 PM.
Pictures: Many students like to arrive early to take pictures at the venue. The Veranda on Broad has a beautiful garden area on the premises to take pictures and is available to us starting at 5:30 PM. Mrs. Kaitie Bryant will be there to take photos that will commemorate the event and be available to all. Those who would like to take pictures are welcome to do so then. Parents who would like to be present for pictures are welcome to be there for pictures between 5:30-7:00 before the dance begins.
The Veranda on Broad: The Veranda is a new venue located at at 830 West Broad Street, Athens, GA 30601. There is parking on-site for student drivers.

Parents! If your MS or HS student athlete(s) plan to participate in an upcoming fall sport, please select and fill out the correct form(s).

WCA Athletic Participation
As a reminder, ALL rising WCA 6th-12th grade student athletes who are planning to participate in spring football practice and summer team conditioning/training programs inside the weight room or out on the field are required to have an active sports physical on Rank One. Once a sports physical expires, individuals are unable to participate in athletic-related activities that involve middle school or varsity-led workouts, training, or team practices.
WCA Sport Physical Encouragement
Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, the WCA athletic department strongly encourages for all rising 6th-12th graders to complete their sport physicals between the months of April-July. By following this plan of action, it allows student athletes an opportunity to have an active sports physical on file for the full athletic calendar, allowing full participation during each athletic season (fall, winter, spring). Even if a current sports physical isn't expired, highly consider taking this important step that compliments using the Rank One system.
Piedmont Healthcare
Attention all rising WCA/AES 9th-12 graders: Piedmont Healthcare is excited to offer Free Sport Physicals for our partner schools on April 26, 2025. Westminster Christian Academy is scheduled at 8:00am. Piedmont Orthopedic and Sports Medicine is located at 1305 Jennings Mill Rd, Building 300, Watkinsville, GA. When you arrive, follow for signs directing you to the school’s entry point. Athletes must have a complete health history with parent signature to receive a physical, or they will not receive care. No Exceptions.

You have until tomorrow morning (the 27th) at 9 am to place your lunch orders for the month of April on Boonli.com. If you are new to the WCA community, or if this is your first time placing an order, please follow these steps:

• Click the link to “Register” at the top of the page
• Enter the password for our school - WCA319
• Follow prompts to complete your registration, including creating profiles for each of your students and placing them in their correct grade for 2024-2025 academic year.
• Make your lunch selections and add them to your cart.
• **Be sure to “check out” and pay after you've made your selections. Your order is not placed until it's paid for!

Come support our students as they share the gifts that they have been developing all year long!

Youth Art Month @ OCAF
Each Spring, the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation dedicates their gallery space to student art from around the county. All Oconee County public and private schools participate. This exhibit is fantastic every year and students are always very excited to see their work on display, especially in this environment!
OCAF is located at 34 School Street in downtown Watkinsville. Gallery hours are 10 am-4 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free, so feel free to come as many times as you'd like! The Student Art Month exhibit will be displayed this year from March 14th until May 9th.

The Georgia Independent School Association hosts an annual Virtual Art Show to showcase students' artistic talent. Participating schools submit student artwork and winners are selected in this virtual format.

Grab your running shoes and get ready for this Saturday's Miles for Smiles 5K! In partnership with Fresh Wind Recovery Ministry, the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy of Westminster Christian Academy is sponsoring a Miles for Smiles 5K on Saturday, March 29th at Wire Park in Watkinsville. Wind Recovery Ministry helps people overcome substance abuse and points them to Jesus.

Thursday Evening is Family Night

The lower school hallway is full of books this week, ready to inspire the imagination of our students! Westminster is hosting our annual Book Fair this week to benefit our library. The book fair is open from 8:05 am until 2:00 pm and 2:50 pm until 3:15 pm each day (closed during arrival and dismissal times).

Join us on Thursday evening for Family Night!
The book fair will be open from 5 until 7 pm with contests, bookmark designing, shopping and more! This is a great time to add to your home libraries while supporting our school library.

Varsity Baseball
The WCA Varsity Baseball Team picked up their 1st Region win in 3 years Tuesday with a solid 2-1 victory over Augusta Prep. The Lions travel to APDS for game 2 of the Region series on Friday, March 21st.

Get ready for the fun next week!
Westminster will be hosting a Book Fair next week - March 17th through the 21st - to benefit our library. The Lower School hallway will be transformed into a reading paradise for your shopping pleasure! The book fair will be open from 8:05 am until 2:00 pm and 2:50 pm until 3:15 pm each day (closed during arrival and dismissal times).

Upper School LEAP Week

This week WCA high school students are participating in L.E.A.P Week (Learning through Experience, Action, and Partnerships).
- WCA Seniors will be serving on their Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic.
- 11th grade students will be participating in internships in an area of their interest.
- 9th and 10th grade students will be traveling to Charleston, Sapelo Island, touring colleges and studying locally in areas such as art, fishing, our legal system, community service and career exploration.
- 8th grade students will be traveling to Washington DC
Please pray for the safety of all students, faculty and parent volunteers during this fun, experiential learning week outside of the classroom!

WCA Athletic Participation
As a reminder, ALL rising WCA 6th-12th grade student athletes who are planning to participate in spring football practice and summer team conditioning/training programs inside the weight room or out on the fields are required to have an active sports physical on Rank One. Once a sports phsyical expires, individuals are unable to participate in athletic related activities that involve middle school or varsity led workouts, training, or team practices.

Staff Development Day
Please remember that there will be no classes for students this Monday, March 10th. This is a staff development day for all WCA faculty and staff which equals a day off for all students. Hope you enjoy the three-day weekend!
High School LEAP Week
Next week WCA high school students will be participating in L.E.A.P Week (Learning through Experience, Action, and Partnerships). This week offers tailored classes, experiences, and internships that allow students to gain real-world experience in areas that are not necessarily offered in their standard academic schedule.
- WCA Seniors will be serving on their Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic.
- 11th grade students will be participating in internships in an area of their interest.
- 9th and 10th grade students will be traveling to Charleston, Sapelo Island, touring colleges and studying locally in areas such as art, fishing, our legal system, community service and career exploration.
- 8th grade students will be traveling to Washington DC
Please pray for the safety of all students, faculty and parent volunteers during this fun, experiential learning week outside of the classroom!
Westminster Book Fair March 17th - 21st
Mark your calendar! Westminster will be hosting a Book Fair March 17th through the 21st to benefit our library. The Lower School hallway will be transformed into a reading paradise for your shopping pleasure! The book fair will be open from 8:05 am until 2:00 pm and 2:50 pm until 3:15 pm each day (closed during arrival and dismissal times).
Join us on Thursday evening for Family Night! The book fair will be open from 5 until 7 pm with contests, bookmark designing, shopping and more! This is a great time to add to your home libraries while supporting our school library.

Important Parking Reminder
Our schedule is full of outdoor athletic activities this Spring and that means a lot of people and cars on our campus. Please remember to park in designated areas only. The grassy areas off of the paved driveways and parking spaces should not be used for parking. We have invested heavily in landscaping and underground sprinklers that could easily be damaged by cars on the grass. Your help with this is greatly appreciated!

In partnership with Fresh Wind Recovery Ministry, the Chick Fil A Leader Academy of Westminster Christian Academy is sponsoring a Miles for Smiles 5K on Saturday, March 29th at Wire Park in Watkinsville. Fresh Wind Recovery Ministry helps people overcome substance abuse and points them to Jesus. Our goal is to raise funds to help Fresh Wind with program costs and the need for more housing and bedding as they continue to grow and impact the lives of those pouring in their doors. We hope to come alongside them with celebratory hearts for all God has done and is doing in the lives of their clients. We hope our community will SMILE big for the freedom they have in their recovery.

ERB Testing in March & April
It's the time of the school year to start thinking about ERB standardized testing for our students in grades 3rd through 7th. Up first are grades 6 and 7 who will be testing next week during the high school's LEAP Week. Grades 3 - 5 will test after Spring Break. Below you will find the testing schedule and additional information.
Testing Schedule:
- March 11-13 ~ 6th and 7th grade students
- April 21-24 ~ 3rd through 5th grade students
- Testing will be completed by 10:30 am each day and the rest of the day will be their normal class schedule.
In Preparation for Testing:
- Make sure your student gets adequate sleep and arrives unhurried and on time each day.
- Please plan for your students to be in attendance during testing times each day unless there is an emergency or illness.
- Please arrive before 8:00 a.m. If you arrive after 8 am, please check in with Mrs. Boswell as usual and leave your child with her.

Region Champion Literary Lions

Senior Mission Trip Donations

The Westminster Class of 2025 is headed to the Dominican Republic in March for their Senior Mission Trip. They will be working with the Lighthouse Projects in towns around the capital city of Santo Domingo and will have the opportunity to hand out gift bags and pray with the people while sharing the love of Jesus.

2025 Miles for Smile 5K
Registrations Open
In partnership with Fresh Wind Recovery Ministry, the Chick Fil A Leader Academy of Westminster Christian Academy is sponsoring a Miles for Smiles 5K on Saturday, March 29th at Wire Park in Watkinsville. Fresh Wind Recovery Ministry helps people overcome substance abuse and points them to Jesus. Our goal is to raise funds to help Fresh Wind with program costs and the need for more housing and bedding as they continue to grow and impact the lives of those pouring in their doors. We hope to come alongside them with celebratory hearts for all God has done and is doing in the lives of their clients. We hope our community will SMILE big for the freedom they have in their recovery.

Senior Mission Trip Donations
Help fill gift bags to take to the Dominican Republic!
The Westminster Class of 2025 is headed to the Dominican Republic in March for their Senior Mission Trip. They will be working with the Lighthouse Projects in towns around the capital city of Santo Domingo and will have the opportunity to hand out gift bags and pray with the people while sharing the love of Jesus. Winter Sports Senior Night!

Our 6th ranked MS Boys basketball team will tip off in the first round playoffs against George Walton Academy on Thursday, January 30th at 6:30 pm. The game will be played at George Walton Academy in Monroe. Go Lions!

Elite partner AAA Santation has been proudly serving the Athens area for more that two decades. Please know that Westminster will be observing the Martin Luther King Day holiday on Monday, January 20th. School will resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 21st.

The new year is just getting started, but it's already time to empty the lost and found bins. Items will be on display in the gym through the end of the school day on Friday. Students currently in grades 7 - 11 will be getting course registration information in the next few days. Please be on the lookout for an email from Mrs. Cole with detailed information on course registration for HS courses. Upper School Honor Roll
On Friday, January 24, the Upper School Honor Roll recipients will be recognized during a special program at 8:05 a.m. in the gym. Parents are invited to attend, and coffee will be provided. A list of recipients will be published next week. Invitations will not be emailed, so please be sure to check the list. Contact Tollie Ediger (tediger@wcalions.org) with any questions.
Honor Roll Criteria
Principal's List: Must have a 90 or better in every academic course in the standard curriculum.
Honors List: Must have an overall academic average of 89.5 or better in the standard curriculum with no individual course grade lower than an 80.
(The standard curriculum includes the following courses: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, and Bible.)

- Participation Fee: $75.00 (volleyball shirt included). The fees will be charged to your FACTS account the first week of the program.

WCA Spring Sport Interest Forms
If you have already filled out the necessary form(s), no further action is required!
If your MS or HS student athlete(s) plans to participate in a WCA spring sport, please select and fill out the correct form(s). Moving forward, athletic interest forms will be available for all spring, fall, and winter sports as we ask for one parent to complete this important requirement.

The link to register for the After-School program is now found on our website. Please follow this link or go to website (wcalions.org) and click on the "Parents" tab along the top. You should see the "After School Program" as an option with the Team Up link at the bottom of that information.
