Cap for a Cure – September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and we are excited to partner with CURE to help find a cure for childhood cancer. As you know, we have several Westminster students that are either currently fighting childhood cancer or are in remission.
Beginning Friday, September 8th, students will have the option to wear a “Cap for a Cure” each Friday through September 28th by donating $1 each week. Let’s show our support of Westminster students and help provide funding for childhood cancer research!
Car Safety for Kids and Teens
The safety of our children should be one of our most important functions as a parent. One area that has the highest risk of injury for our children is the car we put them in or allow them to drive. One of the leading causes of death in infants to 18 year old youth are vehicle crashes. There are a number of laws in the State of Georgia that address the required use of car seats, booster seats, seat belt usage, child placement in the car, and passenger restrictions based on license class.
Please take a moment to review the document linked below which is an overview of these laws which Westminster Christian Academy strongly endorses and encourages you to abide by. Thank you!

Box Tops for Education – the Lower School Competition is On in September!
Wait – don’t throw that box away before you clip the pink box top! Each box top is worth .10 directly to our school. Last year we exceeded our goal and earned $747.60. This year we are trying to maximize our donation from Box Tops for Education and our goal is $1000 (up from $600 last year).
In the spirit of attaining – or exceeding – this goal, we are holding a competition between the Lower School classrooms beginning this week and going through Tuesday, September 26th. The class that collects the most Box Tops during this time will receive a casual day! Each lower school classroom will have a Box Tops collection box. So, look for the logo on the items you purchase, clip them and get them to your child’s classroom. For a product list, please follow this link, Box Tops for Education Product List and while you’re there, be sure to sign up as a member so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.
If you have any questions, contact either Nikki Menjivar, WCA Box Tops for Education Coordinator, email@example.com or Tricia Martin, firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for your help!
Through the Publix Partners program, all purchases made at Publix can help earn money for Westminster. To direct your donations to WCA, you just need to scan your Publix Partners identification when you check out. Identification cards may be picked up in the school office and used immediately to begin earning money for our school!
Kroger Community Rewards
Kroger’s customers are eligible to re-enroll in the Kroger Community Rewards program. You can designate reward points to Westminster Christian Academy by using your Kroger Plus Card. Each Kroger shopper is required to re-enroll his or her Kroger Plus Card on an annual basis. Re-enrollment is now, and dollars begin accumulating for WCA beginning Sept. 1, 2017. Please visit Enroll Kroger Community Rewards.
Volunteer Driver Form
During the school year, if you are interested in volunteering to drive for a field trip and/or athletic event, a Volunteer Driver Form must be completed and turned in to the office by Friday, September 15th. Please note that a copy of your driver’s license and auto insurance card must be submitted with the form. You may print out a copy of the form by following the link below or pick up a copy from the school office.
PROBE College Fair Athens 2017 – TODAY
Calling all 8th – 12th grade students and parents . . . would you like to know more about college admissions? Then make your plans to attend the PROBE Fair on Wednesday, September 6th from 6 – 8 pm at the Classic Center in Athens. Over 100 colleges and universities from across the United States will be available to talk with you about their school.
Students are encouraged to pre-register for the Athens PROBE Fair at GoToCollegeFairs.com. While pre-registration is not required, doing so will give each student a unique bar code allowing college representatives to quickly capture their information during the fair and leave more time for productive conversations with college representatives. Students can then receive timely information about admissions, scholarships, financial aid and visitation days.
As we go through our days, please remember the keep the following WCA families in your prayers. Also, please email Tami Butts (email@example.com) with updated and/or new prayer requests. It is an honor to pray for each other.
- Please continue to be in prayer for Mark Mills (Nathan (6th), Parker (1st) and wife, Tara Merritt) with regards to taking care of his aging parents in Panama. Mark has returned home for now but both of his parents are in the hospital in Panama. His mother has had a feeding tube placed and they are hoping for her to improve enough to fly her and Mark’s father back to the states for further care. Mark and Tara would then need to find some type of assisted living/memory care center for them both. The family requests prayers for wisdom, strength and comfort during these uncertain days.
- Please continue to keep Sabrina Garcia (Noah, 11th and Jacob, 9th) and her family in your prayers as she remains in the hospital at Emory. There is great news this week as Sabrina is out of the ICU and in a regular room. Sabrina’s sister in law, Sam Teschner, is coordinating communication for the family. Please see her update by following this link from Sunday, September 3rd which has additional details and reasons for praise!
- Anderson Krieger (9th grade) and his family, as he continues his treatment for recurrent leukemia and strength for his days as he is able to attend school part-time. Anderson is struggling with a cold this week and subsequent high fever and low counts. For updates, please follow Sally on social media.
- Brent Weatherly and his family. You can follow his journey and receive specific prayer requests. http://dbw26.wordpress.com.
