As most of you know, Renee Autry went to be with the Lord this past Saturday evening. The outpouring of love displayed by so many during the past several days, and their genuine desire and eagerness to serve and care for Renee’s family – husband John and daughters Liz (junior) and Katie (freshman), is a mere indication of the impact Renee had on Westminster and the families, faculty and staff who make up this community.
As Director of Admissions for the past four years, Renee was the first person most families met when they were initially considering Westminster for their child’s education. Easy to talk to, genuinely concerned with and interested in what others had to say, Renee put parents at ease and made the choice easy – Westminster isn’t just a school it’s a family.
Westminster is a family, and Renee was a vital member of this family. Renee was before anything else, a Westminster parent long before she served as Director of Admissions. Through a desire to see the school grow, not just in numbers, but also as a community, Renee was instrumental in re-establishing the Parents’ Association to provide a voice and full community for all parents of the school, and she graciously served as president of the PA board for several years.
Together with her husband John, who has served as a board member and legal counsel for the school, countless amounts of time, energy, service, financial support and more have been poured into Westminster so they could insure that their daughters, and other students, can benefit from the academics, spiritual nurturing and community that is unique to Westminster.
While Renee’s laughter and smile will continue to be missed on campus, all one must do is look around to see all the ways the Lord used her to grow the school and its community to glorify Him.
A service celebrating the life of Renee Autry will be held at Athens Church this Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014 at 6:00 p.m., and a reception will follow. While there was previous mention of possible childcare, there will not be any available.
Please continue to pray for John, Liz and Katie as they navigate through this difficult time and struggle to define a new “normal”.
