WCA Golf Classic

Inaugural Golf Tournament Sponsored by Johnson & Brannen Advisory Group

On Monday, October 18th, golfers will tee off to enjoy the First Annual Westminster Christian Academy Golf Classic sponsored by Johnson and Brannen Advisory Group. The four player scramble format event will take place at Jennings Mill Country Club starting at 9AM.

All the proceeds of the WCA Golf Classic will go towards this year’s Annual Fund which supports special projects and initiatives on campus.  You can register as a team or individual by visiting this registration link.  Please know that your registration fee includes a player pack, breakfast and lunch.  Invite your friends, family and/or coworkers to play in this event.

We are also in need of tournament volunteers. If golfing is not for you, and you would rather serve, please visit the Golf Classic page and select the link to sign up as a volunteer.

This day will be a great time of fellowship among our school community and a fun way to support the WCA Annual Fund.  Please join us!

Donuts with Dad

Donuts, coffee, conversation and time to spend with your child(ren).  Who could ask for a better start to your day?

Mark your calendars and make your plans to attend our annual Donuts with Dads event for the Lower School.  On Friday, September 17th, all lower school dads are invited to join their child(ren) in their classroom(s) from 7:45 until 8:15 am for this special event.  Come when you can and leave when you have to.  If Dads aren't able to attend, Grandfathers, uncles, big brothers, etc. are always welcome!  Registration forms have been distributed by each classroom but if you have questions, please contact Tiffany Rasmussen, trasmussen@wcalions.org.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Caps for CURE Fundraiser ~ Next Week

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and that means it's time for our annual Caps for CURE fundraiser!

This school-wide event will take place next week, September 13th - 17th.  Monies raised benefit the CURE Childhood Cancer non-profit organization.  CURE is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through targeted research while supporting patients and their families.  Last year, WCA raised $1,223.50, and we'd love to surpass that generous amount this year!

Students may make a one-time $5 donation for the privilege of wearing a cap or hat to school each day of the fundraising week.  Additionally, all donations of any size are appreciated whether you choose to don a cap or not!  Lower School students may pay their teachers and Upper School students will be given payment instructions during daily announcements.

So grab your favorite cap or hat to crown your head and raise money for this most noble cause!

Join us for Grandparents Day

It's earlier than most years but for 2021, Grandparents Day will be celebrated on Friday, September 24th, from 9 until 11 am. This event is a wonderful time to welcome these special members of our community to campus and share our school with them.

When you arrive at 9 am:

  • Meet in the gym if your grandchild's LAST name begins with A-L.
  • Meet in the classroom if your grandchild's LAST name begins with M-Z.

After your visit:

Please feel free to check out with your grandchild(ren) when you are finished with your campus visit.  Officially, lower school students are dismissed at 11:30, but you may sign them out with their teacher earlier if you'd like.  Enjoy going to lunch, spending time together, and thank you for sharing your time with us!

We look forward to celebrating this day with you and yours!

Dress Code for Grandparents Day

In honor of Grandparents Day, we ask that all elementary school students wear Monday – Thursday uniform attire.  Casual Friday and Spirit Wear Friday are suspended for this day.  Thank you for your assistance to help us look our best for our guests!

Upper School Students ~ It's a Day Off

Grandparents Day, Friday, September 24th, will be an official day off for all WCA upper school students in grades 6 - 12.  This simplifies activities on campus for Grandparents Day and allows us to have additional parking available for our guests.  So, enjoy the early start to your weekend and Fall Formal day (for those attending) and use your time wisely studying!

AfterSchool after Early Dismissal

Please know that our After School program will be available on Grandparents Day from 11:30 am through normal afternoon pick up time of 5:15 pm.

Questions?  Please contact Rebecca Veal - rveal@wcalions.org.

Upper School Impact Retreat ~ Forms Needed Now

The Upper School IMPACT Retreat is coming up quickly from September 29 - October 1.  (The seniors will leave on September 28.)  There are 3 forms that need to be completed NOW.

Google Form for Sharptop This will need to be completed for each student attending -- includes questions regarding payment for the retreat, food allergies, medical information, t-shirt size, etc.  Please complete by Wednesday, September 8.

WCA Field Trip Permission Form 2021-2022   This is WCA's universal permission slip that covers all trips for the school year.  We just need one form from your family -- not each child.

Required 6009 Form  This is the release form required by Sharptop for all students, teachers, and work crew volunteers.

Contact Tollie Ediger (tediger@wcalions.org) with any questions.

Fall Sports Pictures

Fall Sports Picture day will be on Wednesday, September 15th.  Pictures will be taken after school and communication about which uniform to wear will come from coaches.  Order forms may be picked up in the school office.  If you have any questions, please contact Tollie Ediger, tediger@wcalions.org.

Lady Lions Varsity Basketball - Preseason Meeting

On September 14th at 7:30 pm, or after the varsity volleyball match ends, Coach Deep will hold a parent meeting for girls interested in playing Varsity Basketball.  Topics to be discussed include team introductions, expectations, required forms, initial schedule and team store requirements.  Look forward to seeing you there!

WCA Library Wish List

WCA Librarian, Luci Leach, has compiled a Wish List of books that she would love to have for our library.  Please follow this link to access the list and consider donating an item(s) to benefit our library collection.  Learning to read and the ability to get lost in a book is the gift of a lifetime.  Thank you for helping us foster this love in our students!

Lunch Bunch & After School

For parents that need additional childcare for their students, Westminster offers two programs to extend their day with play and/or study time.  LunchBunch (pre-k and half-day kindergarten) begins at noon and ends at 2:45.  AfterSchool (all lower school and 6th grade) begins at 2:45 with pick-up at 5:15 pm.

  • Click the date your child will need to attend. If your child will attend every day of the month, or the same days each week, you may select "repeats" and choose daily or weekly. If Lunch Bunch or After School reach max capacity, you will see a red message that says "FULL" on the day.
  • Click on the "Calendar" box and select "LB/AS SIGN UP"
  • Type student name(s) into the "Who" box

As we go through our days, please remember to keep the following WCA family in your prayers. Also, please email Tami Butts (tbutts@wcalions.org) with updated and/or new prayer requests.  It is an honor to pray for each other.

Please be in prayer for our upper school art teacher, Jackie Kirsche, as she walks through a recurrence of ovarian cancer.  Jackie is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments which are thankfully being overall effective.  Unfortunately, she had an allergic reaction to one of the medicines during Friday's treatment.  She is recovering but this reaction will most likely cause her treatment therapies to change.  Please pray for wisdom for her doctors and for her as they have to made decisions regarding future treatment options.  Thank you for remembering Jackie, her husband Kevin and children Berkley (class of 2013), Sierra (class of 2016) and Hadley (class of 2018).

Prayer requests are included here at the request, or with the permission of the family.
