Homecoming Week 2022
This week is Homecoming week at WCA and so far, campus has been lively as the Upper School celebrates with Spirit Week. Friday we look forward to a school-wide pep rally and an alumni tailgate followed by cheering on our varsity football Lions. Then on Saturday, it's time for the high school students to dance!
Upper School Spirit Week
It's been fun to see the creativity of our students during this week's upper school Spirit Week! There are two days left - Thursday - Homecoming T-Shirt or Dress Down Day and Friday - Blue and Gold Day. Please remember that all chosen attire should meet WCA standards for modesty and appropriateness as outlined in the student handbook.
Homecoming Game - Purchase Your Tickets Now
It's Friday Night Lights for Homecoming 2022! Westminster Varsity Lions Football team hosts Nathaneal Greene Academy Patriots - kick off at 7:30 pm. WCA alumni are invited to a tailgate dinner before the game. You can now purchase your tickets ahead of the game on the S2 app (see instructions here). We look forward to welcoming them back to our campus. Once a Lion, always a Lion!
Homecoming Dance
The Homecoming dance for high school students is this Saturday evening, September 17th, from 7:30 – 10 pm in the WCA gym. You may purchase your tickets by following this link but the deadline is tomorrow so act quickly if you still need a ticket! Tickets cost $15 per student and should be purchased in advance. Remember if you're bringing a date who is not a student at WCA, you must complete a guest form. You may pick those up from Mrs. Boswell in the school office.
Caps for Cure
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and that means next week is time for our annual Caps for CURE fundraiser!
Caps for CURE is a school-wide event benefiting CURE Childhood Cancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through targeted research while supporting patients and their families. This year, our Caps for CURE fundraiser will take place from Monday, September 19th through Thursday, September 22nd. Last year, WCA raised $1350, and we'd love to surpass that generous amount this year!
Students may make a one-time $5 donation for the privilege of wearing a cap or hat to school each day of the fundraising week. Additionally, all donations of any size are appreciated whether you choose to don a cap or not! Lower School students may pay their teachers and Upper School students will be given payment instructions during daily announcements.
So grab your favorite cap or hat to crown your head and raise money for this most noble cause!
Connection Cafe
For New Families
Our first Connection Cafe for the year will be this Friday, September 16th at 8 am in the Tech Lab. The focus of this Connection Cafe will be topics particularly geared to families that are new to WCA. So if this is your first year here, start your Friday by joining Mr. Clark for a cup of coffee and conversation!
School Pictures
Watermark Galleries Now Available & Re-Take Day Next Week
Individual pictures and class pictures are ready for your review. Be on the lookout for an email from Watermark Photography with access information. If you did not receive an email, follow these steps:
1. Go to www.photographybywatermark.com
2. Click on "Find School Photos"
3. Enter WCA code to search "WCAFall2022"
If you missed the first picture day due to absence, or if you're newly enrolled, or just weren't satisfied with the first pictures, then make your plans to be ready for the re-takes on Monday, September 19th.

Grandparents Day 2022
Grandparents Day will be celebrated on Friday, September 23rd, from 9 until 11 am. This event is a wonderful time to welcome these special members of our community to campus and share our school with them.
When you arrive at 9 am:
- Meet in the gym if your grandchild's LAST name begins with A-L.
- Meet in the classroom if your grandchild's LAST name begins with M-Z.
After your visit:
Please feel free to check out with your grandchild(ren) when you are finished with your campus visit. Officially, lower school students are dismissed at 11:30, but you may sign them out with their teacher earlier if you'd like. Enjoy going to lunch, spending time together, and thank you for sharing your time with us!

Dress Code for Grandparents Day

In honor of Grandparents Day, we ask that all elementary school students wear Monday – Thursday uniform attire. Casual Friday and Spirit Wear Friday are suspended for this day. Thank you for your assistance to help us look our best for our guests!
For All Upper School Students ~ Grandparents Day is a Day Off
Grandparents Day, Friday, September 23rd, will be an official day off for all WCA upper school students in grades 6 - 12. This simplifies activities on campus for Grandparents Day and allows us to have additional parking available for our guests. So, enjoy the early start to your weekend!
AfterSchool After Early Dismissal
Please know that our After School program will be available on Grandparents Day from 11:30 am through normal afternoon pick up time of 5:15 pm. Sign up as usual using the registration calendar (links below in Lunch Bunch/After School section).
Urgent Need for Lunch Volunteers
We have an urgent need for two lunch volunteers for Fridays. The first slot is from 11:00 - 11:30 to sort and deliver LS lunches. The second slot is from 12:00 - 12:30 to distribute US lunches. If interested, contact Tollie Ediger tediger@wcalions.org.
Be a Substitute @ WCA
Westminster would like to increase the number of substitutes our faculty and staff can call on when a need arises which requires them to be away from school. Substitutes are needed for all grade levels and for the front office. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Tollie Ediger (tediger@wcalions.org).
High School Quiz Bowl
Calling all high school students interested in Quiz Bowl! Are you good with facts? We need students who know history, literature, art, science, and math. Come join the state champions from last year defend our state title! Please see Mrs. Cole or email her kcole@wcalions.org if you are interested!
Lost & Found
There have been many things left behind by students during the first weeks of school! That means that the lost and found bins have been emptied and items are on display in the gym. Please take a look and see if there is something that belongs in your house! Items will be on display through the end of the school day on Friday. Unclaimed items will be donated at that point. Thank you for your help with this ongoing endeavor!
FACTS App Update Needed
If you or your student use the FACTS Family App, you may need to download an update if you do not have automatic updates enabled. There has been an issue with students not being able to see all the homework that the teacher posted into the homework section of the app. The FACTS team has fixed this issue and is reflected in the app update.
WCA Golf Classic Registrations
Make your plans to join us for our second annual WCA Golf Classic Tournament on Monday, October 17th at Jennings Mill Country Club. Registrations for teams and individuals is now open.
We are also offering the opportunity to show your support by sponsoring a hole. This is a great way to gain visibility for your business all in the support of a great cause.

Basketball Cheerleading
It's time to start organizing for this years basketball cheerleading teams. If you have a Middle School or High School student who is interested in cheering this year, please follow this link and complete the “Cheerleading Interest Form”. In the coming weeks there will be an organizational meeting so that the team can start preparing for a great season of Cheer at WCA! One of the most important things we can do for our community is to cover it with prayer. A group of WCA parents meets once a week to do just that - pray for our students, faculty, staff and families.
All Westminster parents are invited to join together in the Administrative Building Conference Room from 7:35 am to 7:55 am every Thursday morning. Can't make it every week? Then please come whenever your schedule allows. Your presence will be greatly appreciated!
Lunch Bunch & After School
We are happy to be able to offer our extended day programs to our parents who need additional childcare. LunchBunch (pre-k and half-day kindergarten) begins at noon and ends at 2:45, and AfterSchool (all lower school) begins at 2:45 with pick-up at 5:15 pm.
Extended Care Reminders:
- Please remember that pre-registration (see process below) is needed for extended day programs.
- There are a limited number of spaces available for each day. If you haven't pre-registered, and we reach our maximum number of students, your child will be unable to stay.
- Additionally, please remember that a student in extended care may only be signed out by someone who is of driving age or older.
**Emergency contact form must be completed and returned before a child can stay for LunchBunch or AfterSchool. Please follow this link for the form.** - Charges of $15 per day per session will be billed to your FACTS account on a monthly basis on the 15th of the month for the previous month.
- Please know that effective immediately, there will be a $10 fee for all late pickups. Pick-up time is by 5:15 pm. Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
How do I sign up?
- Click the link: Lunch Bunch & After School Registration
- Click the date your child will need to attend. If your child will attend every day of the month, or the same days each week, you may select "repeats" and choose daily or weekly. If Lunch Bunch or After School reach max capacity, you will see a red message that says "FULL" on the day.
- Click on the "Calendar" box and select “LB/AS SIGN UP”
- Type student name(s) into the "Who" box
- Type LB for Lunch Bunch, AS for After School or LB/AS for both

Please be in prayer for Konda Johnson and her family - Brian, Hollan (WCA 2019), and Grace (WCA 11th) - as they continue on the journey of conquering Konda's cancer. A method called Proton radiation therapy is scheduled in the month of September. It will be only five days total of radiation treatment, spread out over a couple of weeks . It will be used to target her liver lesion and also lung nodules. After this is completed successfully, Konda will be monitored every 2 -3 months. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
