Eleven students from Westminster Christian Academy secured eight 1st place ribbons, two 2nd place ribbons, and one 3rd place ribbon at the Cloverleaf County Project Achievement for 4-H (CPA for 4-H) county competition Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Rocky Branch Elementary School.
The students, all in Mrs. Tiffany Rasmussen’s fifth grade class, included Ashley Allen, Callie Bolemon, Braden DeLamater, Lexi Farr, Ansley Howard, Hannie Lanclos, Stephen Lunceford, Caelan McKenzie, Amelia Norman, Avery Sepesi, and Evan Smith.
The class has been preparing for the competition since September, and each student chose his or her own topic, and worked on their demonstration at home.
Prior to presenting at CPA, students first presented to their class at a monthly 4-H meeting, following which Mrs. Rasmussen met with each student and discussed ways to improve and further prepare for CPA. The students then met afterschool to re-present their tweaked and polished projects before competing at CPA.
Each student who competed at CPA delivered a three to six minute presentation about his or her topic. Due to the breadth of topics, Westminster participated in several categories including tools, survival skills, freshwater fish, arts, poultry science, performing arts (piano), photography, entrepreneurship, cultural studies, and horse care.
As a result of their hard work, all eleven students qualified for and are planning to attend District Project Achievement (DPA) held at Rock Eagle Feb 16, 2013, where they will compete with 4-H members from all over Northeast Georgia.
