WCA Art in the News – “Scary” Community Project
For their final art project of the year, Westminster’s high school art students completed a community art project. The students designed and made scarecrows for a local farm, The Pastures of Rose Creek, a fourth generation family farm in Oconee county. Farmer Will Powers, raises pastured beef and chickens (eggs) and needed scarecrows to keep the birds out of his sunflower fields, and our students delivered! Each group of three students decided on an inspiration and then built their scarecrows from scratch.
There is “Esteban” (Hadley Kirsche, Lauren McCullough and Mary Campbell Greene), “Scare (Bear) Grylis” (Jackson Mulkey, Peyton Turner and Rachel Snyder) and “Dr. Butts” (Abigail Snyder, Ana Madrid and Emily Moore). The scarecrows were delivered to the farm, and the students were able to help Mr. Powers stake them in the fields and have a tour of the farm. It was a great way to end the school year!
