And they’re off! Seniors Leave for Haiti
WCA seniors and faculty members, Mrs. Tiffany Haymore and Mr. Michael Hansen, departed this morning for their mission trip to Haiti. They will be returning on Wednesday, the 25th. Please be in prayer for their safety as they travel and their ministry to the people of Haiti.
“If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”
1 John 3:17-18
Two WCA Seniors Receive Honors
Elizabeth Autry, Samford University
Elizabeth Autry has been selected as a Micah Fellow at Samford University. Micah Fellows is a four-year university fellowship and part of Samford University’s Honor College. The fellowship curriculum and experience derives from Micah 6:8: “But what does the Lord require of you? To do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah Fellows participate in multiple internships with Birmingham service organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Make-A-Wish, and Project Homeless Connect. They also undertake national and international mission trips as a group, and each fellow receives a scholarship to design and fund his or her own summer mission trip following junior year. Liz is one of 12 Micah Fellows selected from many hundreds of applications received from every state and numerous foreign countries.
Christian Delmarter, Berry College
Christian Delmarter has been chosen to be a part of the prestigious WinShape College Program. The students selected receive a scholarship totaling $16,000 for Berry College costs. The program provides a four year journey of equipping and developing disciples, creating community, and launching leaders at Berry College in Rome, GA. The program accepts approximately 30 students each year. Students participate in weekly small groups, receive training in Biblical studies, teamwork, natural and spiritual gifts, all within a Biblical community. Students also attend a series of multiple day catalytic events throughout the four-year journey that spark excitement and growth for the next steps in the process. All costs associated with the WinShape College Program training and events are completely covered by the program.
Congratulations to Liz and Christian on their outstanding accomplishments!
The thrill of victory . . . the agony of defeat.
WCA varsity baseball and soccer teams closed out incredible seasons for 2016. Our student athletes worked hard this season and all three teams – V Baseball, V Girls and Boys Soccer – finished as runners-up in GICAA state finals! Congratulations to all players and coaches for the terrific seasons. We enjoyed watching the athleticism of our players and participating in the competition. We are proud of you!
