Regional Geography & Spelling Bees

In which country can polders be found?  How exactly do you spell chrysanthemum?  This week at the GICAA regional Geography and Spelling Bee competitions WCA students were successfully answering questions like these to advance to the state level next week.

On Tuesday, Tuesday March, 14th,  Westminster sent six students to compete as individuals in the geography bee against 28 other competitors from our region. WCA had four students – Adeline Jolley, Peyton Deep, Aron Bauer, and Andrew Mulkey – who made it to the semi-final round and three of these advanced to the top six!   The following students placed and will compete in the state competition next Tuesday, March 21st.

  • 1st place – Peyton Deep (7th)
  • 3rd place – Aron Bauer (8th)
  • 5th place – Andrew Mulkey (7th)

WCA had four students who competed as individuals in the regional spelling bee.  Mercer Rabon and Daniel Durling represented Westminster in the 4th and 5th grade division and Ava Howard and Aron Bauer in the 6th – 8th grade division.  Aron Bauer (8th) placed first in the 6th-8th division and will compete in the state meet on Tuesday.

Congratulations to all competitors!

Prayer Requests

As the body of Christ, we have the privilege of praying for each other. If you have a prayer request that you would like to have included here, please contact Tami Butts, tbutts@wcalions.org.

Please continue to pray for the Krieger family as their son, Anderson (8th), is undergoing treatment for a relapse of his leukemia. He has almost completed his intense firsts round of treatments which have required him to stay in Scottish Rite for about a month.  In the last few days he developed an infection in his port which resulted in him having to spend a few days in PICU.  Thankfully, he is responding well to treatment.  If all continues to go well and they receive the test results that physicians want to see, Anderson may be released to return home as early as next week.  Specific prayer requests are for protection for Anderson and for continued clean results from weekly spinal taps and desirable blood counts.  Also prayers for peace, strength and provision for Sally (1st grade teacher), Jon and Ian (10th). If you would like to help the family in any way, please contact Julie Tomlin, ourblessedhome6@gmail.com.

There are members of our community in need of our faithful prayer support. These families have set up blogs that you can follow to keep up to date. As you read the blogs, there is much to pray for and much for which to be thankful.

  • For updates and specific prayer requests for the Needham family (Linley 6th), please read Susanna Needham’s blog to follow their families journey as 3 yr. old, Beck, is undergoing treatment for leukemia. For questions, or to address immediate needs, please contact Julie Tomlin (rblessedhome6@gmail.com).
  • Please be in prayer for Brent Weatherly and his family. He has started a blog where you can follow his journey and receive specific prayer requests. http://dbw26.wordpress.com.
  • Thank you for your continued prayers for Hannie Lanclos and her family as she continues her path of healing.

Thank you for lifting up these members of our WCA family.

Prayer requests are included here at the request, or with the permission, of the family.
