WCA Inaugural Middle School Quiz Bowl Wins State
They had the right answers when it mattered most!
On Tuesday the first-ever Middle School Quiz Bowl Team competed against seven schools in Greensboro to win the title of State Champion! Team members are 8th graders Aron Bauer (co-captain) and Pierce Splichal, 7th graders Peyton Deep and Widener Norris (co-captain), and 6th grader Emma Cooke.
The team was undefeated through five rounds of play. Summer reading came to the rescue in the third round as Westminster won on a tiebreaker question regarding the novel The Tail of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. At the halfway point of the final round against Killian Hill, Westminster was trailing by 100 points. The team fought to tie the match, then clinched the victory by correctly answering the last two questions regarding India and a sacred cow.
Westminster’s team brought a breadth of knowledge to the competition as the questions covered the topics of literature, history, science, math, music, art, sports, current events, and pop culture.
Congratulations to the GICAA State Champions!

WCA Hosting GICAA Regional Varsity Basketball Tournament
Westminster has been given a wonderful opportunity to host the GICAA II-A Region Tournament on January 31, February 2, and February 3. There will be four games every night (3:00, 4:30, 6:00, 7:30). Westminster varsity girls and boys will play in at least one of them (and more if we win). The schedule for these games is not yet finalized, but when it is we will let you know game times so you can come out and support our Lions in their home-court advantage!
Brett’s will be providing their awesome expanded concessions for the tournament and our basketball families are volunteering to work admissions and concessions. If you’d like to help us host the region, please follow this link and sign up!

Uniform Consignment Sale
The clothes fit in August, but it’s January and your student may have grown. If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
There will be a uniform consignment sale on Saturday, February 4th, from 8:30 am until 11:30 am. The sale will be set-up in the upper school kitchen area during intramural basketball games.
If you would like to participate in this sale, please bring your gently used uniform items, with price tag attached and enough cash to make change. Items eligible to be sold must comply with current uniform policies. (WCA Uniform Guidelines 2016-2017) Please know that for the 2017-2018 school year, old logo uniform clothing will still be acceptable.
If you know of any new families coming to WCA, please help us spread the word about this opportunity to get incredible savings on great uniform items. Questions? Please contact Raynette Noles, email@example.com.
Coffee and art. These two are definitely made for each other.

Coming up soon, there will be an evening artist’s reception featuring live music and coffee drink specials. Watch the announcements for details in the coming weeks. Congratulations to all students whose artistic talents are on display!
