Eclipse Day 2017 – Delayed Dismissal for Student Body
For the first time in nearly a century, on Monday, August 21 the sun, moon and Earth will line up to turn day into night across the United States. The eclipse is happening for our part of the world right at the end of the school day and we want to ensure our students have the opportunity to witness this historic event! So, we will be handing out eclipse safety glasses and extending the school day by a few minutes to allow for all students to view the eclipse. This will also allow us to have more light during which to safely dismiss all students. Students will dismiss as follows:
- Lower School Dismissal at 3:00 pm
- Upper School Dismissal at 3:15 pm
Eclipse Day Glasses Available
They’re not the prettiest glasses you’ve ever seen but they’ll help you enjoy the eclipse! We have a limited number of certified solar eclipse glasses available for $2 a pair. Remember, glasses will be provided for your student. They may be purchased on a first come, first served basis from the school office. So, get yours before they’re gone and be prepared for the historic celestial event on Monday!
Looking for a place to volunteer? Consider helping with lunch distribution!
We are still in need a few more volunteers to ensure that our hungry students get their lunch orders! There are slots available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for volunteers to help with lunch distribution. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the time commitment is from 11 – 11:30 am. On Thursday, the time is slightly different due to chapel. It is from 11:15 – 11:45 am. In some cases, you may be working with a partner. If you are interest in serving in this way or have questions, please contact Tollie Ediger (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Youth Oconee Leadership
Youth Oconee Leadership applications are due this Friday, August 18th. Information was sent to all 10th and 11th grade parents for your review and can also be found by following this link – Youth Oconee Leadership Information. Questions? Please contact Kelly Cole, email@example.com.
Teacher Appreciation Fund
The Parent’s Association Board graciously requests that each family contribute $10 towards the teacher appreciation fund for the 2017-2018 school year. These funds will be used by the Teacher Appreciation Committee throughout the year to bless the WCA faculty and staff. You may drop off your cash or check donation to the school office or look for the PA table at the US Parent Night. You may also select to have your FACTS account billed for your donation. Please contact Amy Chisholm with any questions, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your generosity!
Parent Volunteers for the US Retreat
Are you ready for a retreat? Well, we have an opportunity for you! This year’s upper school retreat is coming up on September 27th – 29th for all students in grades 6 – 12. The retreat is held at the beautiful YoungLife camp, Sharp Top Cove in Jasper, GA and we are in need of a few more parents to serve on the work crew for this event. The primary duties of work crew members are meal preparation, set-up and clean-up. If you are interested in being a parent volunteer for the retreat, please contact Tollie Ediger, email@example.com.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve our community and participate in this amazing event!.

As we go through our days, please remember the keep the following WCA families in your prayers. Also, please email Tami Butts (firstname.lastname@example.org) with updated and/or new prayer requests. It is an honor to pray for each other.
- Please continue to keep Sabrina Garcia (Noah, 11th and Jacob, 9th) and her family in your prayers as she is in the hospital with kidney and liver health issues. Sabrina’s sister in law, Sam Teschner, is coordinating communication for the family and her most recent update may be read by following this link. There are things to be thankful for and to pray for specifically. Many of you want to know how to help and for now, one way to help is to sign up to provide a meal for them on either a Tuesday or Thursday. Please use this link, Sign Up Genius for Garcia Meals, to bless the Garcia’s with a meal.
- Anderson Krieger (9th grade) and his family, as he continues his treatment for recurrent leukemia and strength for his days as he is able to attend school part-time.
