Westminster Christian Academy’s Legal Lions are now back-to-back District champions after the team defeated area rival Athens Academy in the final championship round of the District Mock Trial competition this past Saturday, Feb. 28 at the UGA Law School. The final round against Athens Academy was a familiar scene that played out much the same as earlier in February when the two teams faced each other at the Regional championship round, and the Legal Lions defeated the Spartans to bring home their second consecutive Region title.
The team was led by seniors and lead counsel, Daniel Lanclos and Jesse Daniels, who both received outstanding attorney awards, which they will add to the awards they took home from the region competition. Junior Madi McCullough also received an outstanding attorney award, and freshman Rachel Snyder won an outstanding witness award for her portrayal of J.D. Delaney. Juniors Liz Autry and Eva Delaplane received outstanding attorney awards at the region competition and juniors Emma Atchley and Sarah Cole each won two awards for their performances as the defendant and plaintiff in this year’s civil case.
Westminster is now among the top eight teams in the state of Georgia and will battle for the state title at the Gwinnett Justice Center on Saturday, March 14, 2015.
Westminster’s Mock Trial team is coached by English teacher Emma Stephens, who was recognized last year as the Outstanding Teacher Coach for Region 2, Director of Academics Kelly Cole, and English teacher Amy Lanclos. Local defense attorney Kim T. Stephens and Solicitor General C.R. Chisholm serve as attorney coaches for the team.
