Westminster is blessed to participate in the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program. Thanks to several families, (35 to be exact), who in just the past couple of days have directed their Georgia state income tax dollars to Westminster, our school already has $68,550 earmarked for scholarships for the 2015-2016 school year. That is a huge blessing! Time is very limited to take advantage of this opportunity. If you, your family members, friends, neighbors or even any business owners you know are even slightly considering directing your state tax dollars to Westminster, please act quickly!
The funds that come to Westminster as a result of GOAL are a blessing, and are directed to our families who apply for and qualify for financial aid. Without this aid, many of our families would not be able to be here enriching our community.
Not only does GOAL afford families the opportunity to be part of our family, but it also greatly helps the school’s overall revenue by freeing up dollars that would otherwise be earmarked for financial aid. The more individuals and corporations who direct their state tax dollars to Westminster, the more the school’s financial aid budget is reduced, which is a help to all school areas, and is a real source of additional revenue for our school.
For those unfamiliar with the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, it is legislation that was signed into law and provides for the creation of student scholarship organizations to which Georgia taxpayers (individual and corporate) can contribute in exchange for a state income tax credit and possible federal charitable income tax deduction. Yes, you receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for your donation on your Georgia taxes for 2015 when you file.
In simple terms, GOAL allows us (and every Georgia citizen and business) the rare opportunity to tell the government exactly where we want our state taxes to be directed – to Westminster Christian Academy.
With all good things, there seems to always be a caveat, right? In the case of GOAL, the caveat is that there is a designated cap on the total amount that can be directed to schools. That cap is reached earlier every year. Two years ago it was reached in June. Last year it was reached in mid January. This year it is expected to cap much earlier and this is why we must act fast to take advantage of this opportunity.
Many of you have directed your taxes in the past, and your continued participation is greatly appreciated and crucial to Westminster. We ask each of you to please consider directing your state taxes to Westminster, and ask your relatives, friends and neighbors to do the same.
