Westminster is pleased to welcome seven new members into the National Honor Society (NHS). During a special ceremony held Thursday, April 25, 2013, the new NHS members were inducted, and senior members were presented with their red cords to wear at graduation.
Congratulations to new NHS members from the class of 2014: Roy MacGregor; and from the class of 2015: Jami Dillard, Daniel Lanclos, Justin Parsons, Megan Reeves, Kara Smith and Mary Catherine Thompson.
The following NHS seniors received the traditional NHS red cords to wear at graduation to signify their achievement: Acorn Angulo, Noah Cooke, Zachary Daniell, Hannah Jordan, Sarah Rawls, Lindsey Vinson and Jiwon West.
Upper School Principal Judy Childs opened the ceremony and NHS President Sarah Rawls provided the ceremony introductions. NHS member Landry Hutto led the attendees in the pledge of allegiance, followed by the invocation provided by NHS member Zachary Daniell.
Prior to the presentation of new members was the traditional lighting of the candles. The candle of Knowledge was lit by NHS Vice President Lindsey Vinosn, then NHS member Olivia Watson lit the Scholarship candle, next was the Service candle lit by NHS member Haley Wingo, the Leadership candle was then lit by NHS member Laura-Scott Tomlin, and NHS Secretary Kristina Beck lit the final candle which stands for Character.
Following the candle lighting ceremony and induction of new members, NHS Treasurer Hannah Jordan led the members in the NHS Pledge.
NHS adviser and Director of Academics and College Counseling Kelly Cole presented seniors their red cords and Headmaster James Armistead closed the ceremony with a prayer.
