The John Andrew Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution recognized two Westminster students on Sunday, April 9th. David Lanclos was chosen as the Westminster senior who exhibited good citizenship, patriotism and love for American History. Annslee Mitchell was recognized as both the Oconee County and the District winner of the 5th grade essay contest. Annslee wrote her essay on the following topic and presented it to the John Andrew Chapter on Sunday.
Westminster seniors left early this morning on their mission trip to Haiti along with chaperones Philip and Tiffany Haymore and Josh Roberts. They will be spending one week in Haiti ministering to the people there and return to the states on April 5th. Please be in prayer for their protection, unity and for the preparation of the hearts of the Haitian people they will be serving. Westminster Christian Academy took three students to this week’s state geography and spelling bees. Seventh graders, Peyton Deep and Andrew Mulkey competed in the geography bowl and eighth grader, Aron Bauer competed in both geography and spelling.
In which country can polders be found? How exactly do you spell chrysanthemum? This week at the GICAA regional Geography and Spelling Bee competitions WCA students were successfully answering questions like these to advance to the state level next week.
On Tuesday, Tuesday March, 14th, Westminster sent 6 students to compete as individuals in the geography bee against 28 other competitors from our region.
The Westminster Mock Trial team 2017 ended their season with an incredible day of competition this past Saturday when they competed as one of the top 8 teams in the state and finished as runners-up. Congratulations to all team members and coaches on an amazing and exciting season! Events are best described in the words of coach, Emma Stephens:
Last week there were 27 WCA sophomores and juniors who visited 4 colleges in 3 days and had a lot of fun in the process! First off on Tuesday the group spent the day at UNG Dahlonega and then drove on to Chattanooga and enjoyed dinner downtown. Wednesday was spent touring Lee University in the morning and Covenant College in the afternoon. On Thursday, the final day of the whirlwind tour, the students visited Berry College before heading home.
Here they are again, the smiling faces of our winning Legal Lions! While many of us were relaxing and enjoying our Winter Break, WCA’s 2017 Mock Trial team won the district level competition held on Saturday, March 18th. This places them in the top 8 teams of all public/private schools in the state! State level competition commences on Saturday, March 4th. Congratulations to Legal Lions students and advisors!
Ready for a four-day weekend? I think so! This weekend marks Winter Break 2017 for Westminster Christian. School will be closed on Friday, February 17th and Monday, February 20th. Classes resume on Tuesday the 21st. With the winter we’re having, get outside and enjoy our “Springtime” Winter Break!
Congratulations to our Varsity Lady Lions on their victory Friday night against Peachtree Christian (43 – 26) which earned them the title GICAA Region II-A Champions! Up next is their second round playoff game this Friday evening at WCA.
Westminster’s 2017 mock trial team competed in the region tournament on Saturday against local schools, including Clarke Central High School, North Oconee High School, Oconee High School, Athens Christian School, Greenbriar High School, Jefferson High School, and Eastside High School. The Legal Lions had a great day, sweeping the morning rounds—winning every ballot and taking all eight individual best witness and best attorney awards!
